Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit
The old Detroit Train Depot was left vacant after the decent of Detroit city. The building with grand station lobby, and 15 floors of office space was shadowed in the middle of the abandoned plaza.
With the Detroit Art Institute program, the renovation was designed to re-inhabit the building with a self-supported community.
Through removing the floor plates and walls with customized formwork, the structural skeleton was remained, and new programs could be built like floating boxes with recycled materials from the removal.
